Punta Arenas-Monumento Natural Los Pinguinos

Posted 1 year ago by avatar hans in response to avatar donny's question: Where can I see some penguins around Punta Arenas? (give a different answer) .

On Isla Magdalena, about 25 km of town, there is the Monumento Natural Los Pinguinos, which is a colony of 60,000 Magellanic penguins. The penguins are there only in the breeding season, that is November-January; the rest of the time the island is deserted. This island was visited by Drake who, with his men, killed 3,000 penguins for food. Comapa agency organizes daily (in high season) boat trips there for $30, with a 2 hour stay on the island.
